Reborn in 1985: Taking Back My Life

Chapter 300: The Blackwells Come to Negotiate

Frederick Blackwell's face was dark with fury. His worthless son seemed incapable of staying out of trouble. While in the capital, he had at least shown some restraint, but the moment he stepped outside, he became as wild as an untamed stallion. And now, he had provoked Julian Kingsley of all people. Could the mess he created be any worse?

He had only this one son—sometimes he wished he only had daughters. Look at how sensible Wesley Young was, managing all the household affairs with ease. But this son of his? The difference between them was like night and day.

Yet, what could he do? His mother had fainted from crying, his father had nearly suffered a heart attack, and his wife was drowning in tears. As a father, he didn’t even have the right to discipline his own son.

Kyle Blackwell had been spoiled rotten by the entire family. And now, he had the audacity to attempt murder—and was caught red-handed. If it had been an ordinary person, they might have been able to smooth things over with money. But of all people, it had to be The Kingsley family’s lifesaver. Mr. Kingsley was notoriously protective of his own. This matter wouldn’t be resolved easily.

As he entered the reception room, his assistant respectfully guided him in. Julian Kingsley was lounging leisurely on the sofa and only rose slowly when they entered.

"Uncle Kyle, please have a seat."

Katherine Blackwell immediately stepped forward. "Julian, it’s been a while. I apologize on behalf of Jesse Young for the trouble he’s caused you." She played the emotional card wisely, hoping to minimize the damage.

Frederick Blackwell forced a smile. "Yes, this boy is young and impulsive. He doesn’t think before he acts. I’ll make sure he apologizes to the doctor personally and guarantees it won’t happen again." Sitting on the sofa, he felt uneasy. Facing someone younger than him shouldn’t have made him feel so on edge, yet here he was, restless as if sitting on pins and needles.

Julian Kingsley gestured for his assistant to serve tea. "Uncle, Wesley Young, please have some tea."

When Julian Kingsley didn’t respond to their overtures, Frederick Blackwell’s heart sank. Despite his youth, Julian Kingsley had inherited his grandfather’s shrewdness and was notoriously difficult to deal with in business. Today’s negotiation wouldn’t be easy.

Katherine Blackwell took a sip of tea, showing no sign of discomfort. "Julian, where is the injured doctor? I’d like to apologize in person. Whatever conditions you have, we’ll agree to them." If Julian Kingsley wouldn’t budge, she’d find another way.

"Unfortunately, she just left." Julian Kingsley raised an eyebrow. "You didn’t run into her?" Trying to catch him off guard? This father-daughter pair had arrived half an hour early—he knew exactly what they were plotting.

"Were those two just now Dr. Ward?" Katherine Blackwell feigned surprise. Internally, she was shocked. That girl looked no older than seventeen or eighteen. How could she be a doctor? The man protecting her also looked familiar, but she couldn’t place him.

"Dr. Ward is the second daughter-in-law of the Stone family. Adrian Stone escorted her home." Julian Kingsley casually dragged The Stones into the matter. "At this late hour, only someone like me, burdened with responsibilities, would still be entertaining you."

Frederick Blackwell nearly choked on his own breath. How had The Stones gotten involved? He wasn’t very familiar with Adrian Stone—after moving out of the compound years ago, he’d lost touch with many old acquaintances.

"I see." Katherine Blackwell quickly played the nostalgia card. "Brother Adrian took care of me often when we were kids. Julian, considering we grew up together—"

"This is complicated." Julian Kingsley cut her off. "Last night’s car accident nearly cost Dr. Ward her life, and there were multiple victims. The circumstances are extremely severe."

Frederick Blackwell couldn’t help but interject. "There’s no proof that Jesse Young was involved. It could’ve just been a drunk driver—"

Julian Kingsley crossed his legs leisurely and took a sip of tea. Getting nervous? Thinking there were no witnesses? They underestimated him.

"General Liam Turner and Colonel William Harris were both present last night. The investigation results were personally relayed to me by General Turner." He spoke slowly. "We initially just wanted an apology from Kyle Blackwell, but instead, he escalated things by sending men to attack Dr. Ward’s sister’s home. Had we arrived a moment later, three lives would’ve been lost."

His gaze turned icy. "Think carefully—if something had actually happened, what do you think The Stones, General Turner, and our Kingsley family would have done?"

This was nothing short of a blatant threat.
