Reborn One Year Before My Death
Chapter 125
The driver wasn't Damian Cross's assistant, but Old Mr. Ward, the chauffeur from the Cross family estate.
Hearing the young master's unusually gentle tone from the backseat, Old Mr. Ward's grip on the steering wheel faltered.
Good heavens, was this really the same cold-faced "King of Hell" young master?
Old Mr. Ward stole a glance through the rearview mirror and saw Damian looking at his phone with a rare smile playing on his lips.
"Aria, I'll be there soon."
The way he said "Aria" sent shivers down Old Mr. Ward's spine.
Looks like the Cross family is about to have some happy news! Old Mr. Ward thought gleefully, already planning to report this to the butler the moment they arrived.
Meanwhile, the Cross estate was brightly lit.
Old Master Cross sat in the living room reading a newspaper, occasionally glancing at the clock.
"Sir, you should rest," the butler said, bringing him a cup of tea.
Old Master Cross waved him off. "Not yet. That rascal said he'd be back tonight."
Just then, the butler's phone buzzed.
"Sir! Wonderful news!" The butler's voice trembled with excitement. "The young master might be in a relationship!"
"What?" Old Master Cross shot to his feet, scattering the newspaper.
The butler beamed. "Old Mr. Ward just texted—the young master asked him to drive a young lady home. His tone was so tender..."
Old Master Cross slapped his thigh. "That boy! Finally came to his senses!"
As they spoke, the front door swung open, and Damian strode in.
"Dad, why are you still up?"
Old Master Cross's eyes lit up as he hurried forward. "You rascal! Out with it—who's the girl?"
Damian sighed, rubbing his temples. "Old Mr. Ward and his big mouth..."
"Don't change the subject!" Old Master Cross stamped his foot impatiently. "Are you two together or not?"
Damian cleared his throat. "I'm still pursuing her."
"What? You haven't won her over yet?" Old Master Cross looked aghast. "Aren't you supposed to be some hotshot? Can't even handle one girl?"
Damian chuckled helplessly. "It's not like buying groceries, Dad."
"I don't care!" Old Master Cross huffed. "I want to meet my future daughter-in-law next month, or don't bother coming home!"
Damian massaged his temples. "Dad, these things take time..."
"Time? Your mother was already raising you at your age!"
Damian: "..."
The butler stifled a laugh. After decades, their banter never got old.
"Alright, get some rest," Damian said, steering the conversation away. "I promise to bring her home soon."
Old Master Cross finally nodded in satisfaction, then suddenly remembered something. "Wait—what's her name?"
"Aria Bennett," Damian said, his lips curving unconsciously. "She's... special."
Seeing his son's expression, Old Master Cross's heart swelled with joy.
Late the next night, Aria was reviewing a script when her fingers stilled.
Her head snapped up, eyes sharp.
"They're here."
She quickly dialed Damian. "The fish took the bait. Head to the Blackwell residence now."
On the other end, Damian was at a private club with his childhood friends.
"Sorry, urgent business." He stood to leave.
"Whoa, what's the rush?" Marcus Sterling grabbed his arm. "Is this about that Miss Bennett?"
Damian arched a brow. "How'd you know?"
"It is!" The group erupted. "Give us details! How far along are you two?"
Damian checked his watch. "Another time. Lives are at stake."
With that, he bolted out, leaving them stunned.
"Lives? That intense?"
Meanwhile, at the Blackwell villa.
Victor Blackwell clutched his phone, sweat beading on his palms. "Master Aria, please hurry! The house turned freezing—my mother and I both feel something's wrong..."
Aria's voice was calm. "Stay put. We're coming."
Hanging up, she rushed to the door.
Damian's car was already waiting. He opened the door as she approached.
"Status?" he asked grimly.
Aria buckled in. "They're making their move tonight. We need to hurry."
The black sedan tore through the night toward the Blackwell estate.
Outside, dark clouds swallowed the moonlight.
