She Left the CEO and Reclaimed Her Empire
Chapter 507
Marcus had just turned to leave when Damien brought Camille's phone over from Chloe's room.
Taking it from his hand, Camille didn't lift her head. She only spoke softly. "Thank you."
Damien said nothing.
Camille got out of bed. She intended to go to Chloe's room to wash up.
Seeming to read her intention, Damien stood there watching her. Then he spoke. "There's a toothbrush and cup here too."
Camille's steps paused. Since she had already rested here, washing up here didn't seem to make much difference.
After a brief hesitation, she turned and went into Damien's bathroom.
While she was brushing her teeth, Emmett arrived.
After she was done washing up, Emmett examined her. He carefully asked about her condition. Then he set up an IV drip for her. He also gave Damien detailed instructions on what to watch for in the days ahead.
After Emmett left, Damien brought over the soup that Marcus had prepared.
Camille hesitated briefly before reaching out to take it. "Thank you."
"It's okay."
She was running a high fever now. She felt utterly awful with no appetite at all. But she still forced herself to eat slowly.
While drinking the soup, she suddenly thought of something. Turning her head slightly, she looked at Damien sitting not far away watching her. She asked in a hoarse voice. "Where's Chloe?"
"She's downstairs. Both Chloe and Grandma are very worried about you. But children are fragile. Grandma hasn't fully recovered yet either. I was afraid they'd catch it from you. So I didn't let them come up."
Camille managed half a bowl before she couldn't eat any more.
Seeing how hard it was for her, Damien didn't insist. He took the bowl from her hand. He pulled a tissue and handed it over for her to wipe her mouth.
"If you're not comfortable, just rest. Once the IV's done, I'll call Dr. Wren back up."
"Thank you."
Damien said nothing.
Even though she was exhausted, before sleeping, Camille still sent a message to Gabriel. She let him know about her condition.
Gabriel learned that she had such a high fever. He was very worried too. He told her to focus on getting her health back. As for work, they would talk about it after she recovered.
Putting her phone down, Camille was about to drift off. Her gaze unintentionally landed on Damien sitting not far away. He was still working on his laptop.
She looked at him for a moment before closing her eyes to rest.
It was more than two hours later when she woke up again.
Her whole body was drenched in sweat. Her clothes were soaked through.
At some point, the IV had finished. But Damien was still there keeping watch.
Seeing her awake, he closed his laptop and walked over.
"How are you feeling?"
"Warm."
More precisely, she felt warm and cold at the same time. But the damp clothes clinging to her were unbearable. So she got up and went to the bathroom to change.
When she came back out, Damien handed her a thermometer.
"I checked your temperature twice earlier. First it dropped quite a bit. But then it started climbing again. Dr. Wren said that's normal. The timing's about right now. Let's test again."
Camille took it. "Okay."
Though still weak, she felt somewhat better than before.
Glancing at Damien's laptop on the desk, she spoke. "I can take care of myself now. Go ahead with your work."
At that, Damien looked at her for a moment but didn't reply.
Just then, his phone rang.
He went over to pick it up. Then he answered the call and stepped out of the room.
