She Left the CEO and Reclaimed Her Empire
Chapter 204
Camille gave a slight nod. Hmm.
Everett remained silent.
Gabriel was clearly trying to make things difficult for Everett.
Truth be told, neither of them cared about the money.
As business discussions grew serious during dinner, Camille stayed quiet, only speaking when absolutely necessary.
Most of the time, she simply observed.
Everett noticed this with some surprise - whenever Camille did contribute, her insights were remarkably sharp and valuable.
She was far more capable than he'd assumed.
Previously, he'd imagined Camille as the clingy, desperate one in her relationship with Gabriel - the inferior party chasing after him.
But watching their dynamic tonight painted a different picture. Perhaps this was exactly how she'd managed to completely captivate Gabriel.
After all, without genuine substance, how could someone like Gabriel be so taken with her?
As dinner neared its end, Camille excused herself to visit the ladies' room.
On her way out, she nearly collided with Damien emerging from the adjacent restroom.
Damien saw her but made no move to speak - perhaps uncertain what to say.
Camille had no intention of conversation either and was about to pass by when she suddenly remembered something and stopped.
"When can we finalize the divorce?"
She knew he was eager to get it done. He'd undoubtedly expedite the process to be rid of her.
Knowing this, she'd never bothered asking before. But now, so much time had passed-
Damien replied, "It'll take a while longer."
"No specific date?"
"I'll inform you once it's confirmed."
Camille said nothing more and turned to leave when Damien suddenly added, "Grandmother knows about the divorce now."
"That's good," Camille responded.
At least the old woman would stop trying to push them together. And Camille wouldn't have to keep pretending anymore.
Damien gave a noncommittal hum.
They walked forward in silence.
Suddenly, someone came barreling around the corner.
Both instinctively stepped aside, but Camille still got bumped, stumbling backward - right into Damien.
His hand reflexively steadied her at the waist.
The stranger muttered an apology before disappearing into the restroom.
Before Camille could even rub her sore shoulder, she tried to pull away from Damien's hold.
At that exact moment, Everett appeared around the corner.
Seeing Camille leaning against Damien, his hand still on her waist, Everett froze mid-step. "You two-"
Damien released her immediately.
Camille quickly put distance between them, avoiding both men's gazes as she walked away without another word.
Everett's eyes followed her retreating figure before shifting back to Damien.
Damien smiled politely. "Mr. Mercer, here for the restroom too?"
Everett answered stiffly, "Yes."
With a slight nod, Damien turned and left without further comment.
Watching Damien walk away so casually, Everett pressed his lips into a thin line. He'd never considered any connection between Camille and Damien.
As far as he knew, they'd only crossed paths once at Vertex Dynamics. And even then, they hadn't exchanged a single word.
Which made sense - Camille was just an engineer at NovaSight Labs, far too junior to interact with someone of Damien's standing.
Then there was that charity gala.
But Damien had only sought Camille out that night because of-
Well, that was different.
Other than that, they shouldn't have had any connection.
Interesting, wasn't it?
So what exactly had he just witnessed?
