Reborn in 1985: Taking Back My Life
Chapter 295: Elena Ward Finally Stopped Trembling
Ten minutes later, Elena Ward finally stopped trembling. What had happened couldn't be undone—there was no use avoiding it now.
"How did you find me?" Her voice still quivered slightly.
Adrian Stone and Nathaniel Stone's timely arrival had been nothing short of a miracle. Kyle Blackwell hadn't come alone this time—he'd brought backup and even a gun. If they hadn't shown up when they did...
"We tracked him for a full day and night," Adrian said, his voice low. "The bastard knows how to hide. The last trace we had of him was by the highway before he vanished."
Nathaniel picked up the thread. "We tracked down one of his lackeys' wives. She said her husband went with Kyle Blackwell to 'deal with a woman.'"
"We went straight to the hospital dorm," Adrian clenched his fists. "When you weren't there, I knew you'd be here."
Guilt weighed heavily in his voice. "I'm sorry. I promised to protect you."
Elena leaned into his embrace. "This isn't your fault. Kyle Blackwell was determined to get revenge—you couldn't have predicted this."
Her warm breath tickled his chest, sending a jolt through him. He suppressed the flutter in his chest. "Warmer now?"
"Yeah."
"Then let's deal with Kyle Blackwell." Adrian quickly shrugged on his coat.
As they stepped out of the room, Elena's older sister, Rose Jackson, approached with a steaming cup of ginger tea.
"You okay now?" She scrutinized her younger sister with concern.
Elena downed the tea in one gulp. "I'm fine, sis."
Only then did Rose Jackson relax. The state her sister had been in earlier—it was like she'd just crawled back from death's door.
Samuel Jackson came running over, lifting his shirt to reveal a dark bruise on his stomach.
"Does it hurt?" Elena asked, her heart aching at the sight.
"Nah... ow!" The boy tried to tough it out but winced anyway.
Elena gently rubbed the spot, and Samuel immediately sighed in relief. "Auntie's hands are magic!"
"Don't push yourself," Rose Jackson warned quietly. "You scared us half to death earlier."
Meanwhile, Nathaniel and Adrian were murmuring in low voices. Adrian stepped forward. "Elena, there's something..."
Understanding, Elena turned to her sister. "Sis, take the kids to rest first."
Once Rose Jackson had ushered the children away, Adrian spoke again. "Kyle Blackwell is completely paralyzed now. He can't even speak."
Elena didn't shy away from it. "I did that. It was him or me."
Nathaniel's eyes lit up. "Pressure points?"
"Now we have no choice but to silence him for good," Adrian said grimly.
Elena startled. She hadn't meant to push Adrian to this extreme.
"Wait!" she hurriedly interjected. "It's reversible!"
Both men exhaled in relief. Adrian scratched his head. "I wasn't thinking straight..."
Nathaniel chuckled ruefully. "We panicked."
Elena looked at them, warmth flooding her chest. For her sake, they'd been willing to abandon their principles.
"Let's go," she said softly. "We'll settle this first."
Under the moonlight, their shadows stretched long across the ground. The storm was finally coming to an end.
