"Unnecessary." Clara turned to leave.

Grant Holloway's expression stiffened.

He shot a glance at Elias Mercer standing nearby, silently urging him to leave.

The physicist remained motionless, ignoring the unspoken request.

Grant clenched his fists.

Clara instinctively took half a step back.

"We should go," she said to Elias.

The man gave a slight nod.

"'We'? Then what am I?" Grant's eyes darkened with barely restrained fury.

He took a deep breath, forcing down the storm of emotions.

"I came to say," he locked eyes with Clara, "I don't accept your 'congratulations' from that day."

Clara frowned.

"Unless you forgive me, I'll never have children in this lifetime." Grant enunciated each word. "Because the only woman who can bear my children is you."

"You should see a doctor," Clara finally said.

"What?"

"A psychiatrist." She tugged Elias's sleeve. "Let's go."

Only after entering the elevator did she exhale deeply.

"Sorry you had to witness that, Professor."

After confirming no one lurked outside her window, she grabbed a shopping bag and headed out.

"Professor?" She froze at the alley entrance.

Elias had changed into casual wear, his damp hair still dripping.

"Grocery shopping? I'll join you."

Understanding dawned—he was worried Grant might reappear.

"Thank you."

Elias smiled. "Shall we?"
