After I Walked Away, My Billionaire Ex Begged Me Back

Chapter 160: Diane Harrow's Eyes Gleamed with Calculation

Diane Harrow's eyes gleamed with calculation. "What does Clara do in Boston? It must be impressive. Ordinary people can't save up millions."

Clara Whitmore pressed her lips together. Helen Whitmore gently squeezed her daughter's hand.

"You flatter her. Clara changed jobs a few times after Ashford University. She just saved some modest earnings."

Claire Porter snorted. "Hopefully not through questionable means. Girls should know their place."

Helen remained composed. "Children have their own paths. We should support them as elders."

Denise Carver arched an eyebrow. "Paths? Or is she hunting for new targets? Will she bring back another few million next time?"

She emphasized the word "targets" deliberately.

Helen's expression darkened. Just as she was about to respond, Clara's phone rang.

"Mom, I need to take this..."

"Go ahead." Helen took a deep breath.

"Sloane?"

Sloane Bennett's voice came urgently. "The grad school results are out! Check yours now!"

Clara suddenly remembered today was score release day.

"Okay, checking now."

She hurried upstairs and entered her exam ID on the computer.

As her finger hovered over the search button—

"Are these bags real?"

Tessa Carver emerged from the walk-in closet clutching one designer bag, another slung over her shoulder.

"Who said you could come in here?"

"Aunt Claire said I could look around."

"Looking doesn't mean rummaging through private belongings."

"They're just bags. Why so touchy?"

Clara's gaze turned icy. "Did no one teach you not to touch others' property?"

"I did it anyway. What will you do?"

"Put. Them. Back."

"Stop pretending! These were obviously bought by some man!"

Slap!

A sharp crack echoed through the room.

"That slap teaches you to watch your mouth."

"You hit me?!" Tessa shrieked, clutching her cheek.

"I don't need an appointment to slap you."

"I'll kill you!"

Downstairs, the relatives continued speculating about Clara's income sources.

Suddenly, screams erupted from the second floor.

Denise jumped up. "That's Tessa!"
